So, I finally convised my friend to buy Guild Wars, however, I was an idiot and forgot to tell him I only have Nightfall and Factions. As luck would have it, he bought the GotY edition. I'm thinking about buying it, but I have one question. Will I be able to use all the skills I've unlocked in Nightfalls and Factions, or will I have to start him in the game I want him in to be able to get those skills?

Also, will I be able to make an Assassian/Dervish/etc. or would I have to bring those guys over?

Oh, and when's the earliest point I can bring a character from Nightfall to Prophecies?

You can do everything you do now and then some as long as you add the key to the same account you're using for Factions and Nightfall. As soon as you get to Kaineng Center in Factions and The Consulate Docks in Nightfall, you can get quests there that will take you to Lion's Arch in Tyria.

You don't necessarily have to get the GotY edition though. I could be wrong, but I believe the only extras in that are the weapons and you can now buy those for something like $5.99 in the ingame store. If you shop around I think you can probably find a really good deal on a Prophecies/EotN combination which I believe would give you even more options... if you want.

EDIT to answer your second paragraph that I ignored above (sorry): you can start core professions only in Prophecies, and you can bring over all existing characters in the Factions and Nightfall professions through quests as stated above.

Additionally, if you start a character in Prophecies while your friend is still in pre-searing you'll be able to play with him there. If you don't start a character there, you'll have to wait for him to get to post-searing to play with him with the characters you bring over.

Yes.

No, but you can bring them over to help him or continue with him.

If you have Consulate Docks, you can go to Prophecies. I believe it's there. So, relatively early. I imagine you're farther, probably off Istan (also known as Noob Island), so that definitely means you can get to him. You'll be in Lion's Arch however, which is some distance from Old Ascalon (where he comes in after he gets out of pre-searing, the equivalent to Noob Island in Nightfall or Factions).

Fortunately fighting backwards from Lions arch isn't that hard your henchies are always a little higher than when coming the other direction, ie from ascalon to LA its not much but its an edge and its enough.

If your characters high enough he could probably run a lot of it, the Hydra's can be tricky but that's the only real threat I found.

I'd recommend starting a new character in Prophecies and using that char to play thru the game with your friend. If you bring over one of your upper level characters to play with him then you'd be barreling thru all those low level quests while your friend doesn't really learn the mechanics of the game.

I'm one of those people that believe that folks just learning the game shouldn't receive Droks Runs and free max armor right away. Let them learn to play well first and help them out with tips not runs.

Just make a new character in Prophecies with your friend and tell tips on how to play the game.
